"The Lieutenants Mistress have an easy sound with quite a laid back, melodic flavour from guitar that ranges from light rhythmical strums to full chordwork and jangles. Bass and drums drive solidly, and the vocal has a dark, honest tone and whilst often being rather earthy sits nicely on the more sombre tones that the band can produce. A trumpet crops up now and then, adding a real touch of class. Drums can add great flare when they want to, and at times bass settles into some slightly Latin sounding grooves, while a whistle creates a carnival feel. A very classy, satisfying act.” “Band of the night: The Lieutenants Mistress”
NEON PROMOTIONS

“The singer carries a stark but firm vocal, and with taught bass and drums the sound can be reminiscent of early Fall - for a moment at least - until the band pull out one of their likeable jangly choruses. There's a quirky, angular edge here - Monochrome Set spring to mind. Some songs take on a strangely Latin feel - especially when a trumpet is put to good use, adding a soulful, sombre tone. Indeed, a whistle and even shakers are brought out, adding to the carnival atmosphere. An act that can be very deep but great fun too.”
HOPE AND ANCHOR, ISLINGTON

“The Lieutenant's Mistress, occasionally dark, often insecure but always well observed, lyrically their caricatures and observational commentaries follow in the footsteps of British groups like the Kinks but also draw similarities to American counterparts Modest Mouse with their heavily trumpet influenced melodies mixed together with Interpol’s darker side.”
MILK KLUB, THE SOCIAL, LONDON

"If you like your indie with a book under one arm, and red rose under the other, catch The Lieutenants Mistress”

2007 EP reviews

"And currently deservedly flying high in the chart are The Lieutenant's Mistress with the brass-led 'Next To Me'. Decent melancholy indie with hints of Morrissey or Lloyd Cole, this northern sound stands out in the south coast musical climate."
JEFF HEMMINGS, LATEST 7 MAGAZINE, 25TH MARCH 2008

"Some good old school indie nourishment"
MR BONGO, FIERCE PANDA

“In ‘Next To Me’, I see the beauty and can appreciate the melancholy of the dichotomy and I like the way you use trumpets to create the funereal atmosphere in songs.”
